Superchips Provides Horsepower Relief for For 1.0-liter Owners

We have all heard of Superchips in our lifespans at some point. Well, at least us motorheads obsessed with squeezing every ounce out of our engine that we can. Superchips sells and markets vehicle ECM/ECU/PCM remapping via an installed chip. These are typically good for a few extra ponies without any major overhauling needed.
The Ford 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine, which recently took home the International Engine of the Year Award, really pumps out a fair amount of power (127 horsepower and 149 pound-feet of torque) for a little 3-cylinder plant. It looks like Superchips has decided that wasn’t quite enough, as it has recently released a remapping chip for the 1.0-liter Ford engine that pumps its power up to 145 horsepower and 167 pound-feet of torque. It does this without affecting its 56.6 mpg rating either.
This chip runs ₤499, which translates out to $713 at the current exchange rate. $713 for an 18 horsepower and 18 pound-feet increase isn’t too bad. This is especially true when considering that it has no adverse effect on the mpg.
This hits home when we consider that Ford has already told us that the 1.0-liter engine is coming to the U.S. in 2013, which will likely be in the Fiesta. Considering the Fiesta hits 60 mph in 8.7 seconds with its current 1.6-liter engine that musters 120 horsepower and 112 pound-feet of torque, dropping some weight because of a smaller engine and adding 25 horsepower and 55 pound-feet of torque will get drivers a nice bump in acceleration. That means with this upgrade, the compact Fiesta can likely hit 60 mph in around the 7-second mark, which is damn good for a compact hatch.

2012 Curiosity Rover

We love vehicles that have two and four wheels, so why shouldn’t we love those that have six wheels? No, we’re not talking about the latest Ford F-350 Dually. We are talking about the technological marvel that has been on the tip of everyone’s tongue lately: the Mars Science Laboratory, which is better known simply as the Curiosity Rover.
Recently, we showed you an infographic that pitted the 2013 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor against the Curiosity Rover, and that was obviously done in jest. See, the Curiosity Rover is set to go where no F-150 could ever go... the red planet – Mars to those that are not also Sci-Fi nerds.

2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited "Crush Recovery"

We still have to wait a long time before the 2012 SEMA Auto Show officially starts, but there are already a few vehicles getting prepped for their big day. One of these models is a ruggedly eccentric Wrangler Crush Recovery designed by famed Jeep builder, Dave Doetsch.
His project is based on a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, the most capable off-road vehicle on the market. The new Wrangler Unlimited "Crush Recovery" was outfitted with more than 60 of the latest products from OMIX’s family. These products include Alloy USA’s high-strength chromoly axle shafts, Rugged Ridge XHD modular aluminum bumpers, and new half doors for the Jeep. Topping off the accessories is an Orange Crush exterior paint finish, which is where the name of the project comes from.
Before its official launch in SEMA, the Wrangler Unlimited "Crush Recovery" will be unveiled to selected customers at the 2012 Airpark Jeep Jamboree in Scottsdale, Ariz. on October 13, 2012.
