2011 Lamborghini Gallardo TT by Underground Racing

lamborghini gallardo lp 560-4 bicolore edition

After teasing the return of the Lamborghini Gallardo Nera a couple of months ago, Underground Racing is back with yet another tuning kit for the Gallardo. It may not be the Nera, but the Lamborghini Gallardo TT will certainly beat many other cars to the punch with its array of engine options and its killer speed.

The new Gallardo TT will be offered in three different engine stages with updates ranging from Stage One’s 650 WHP all the way up to Stage Three’s 1250 WHP on race fuel. If that’s not enough to tantalize your taste buds, Underground Racing has a Race Version Turbo System with a highly modified twin-turbo engine that will increase the output to a total of 1500 WHP on race fuel to make us feel all tingly inside.

The fun is all in the end result, but to get there, Underground Racing added a slew of products. The package includes custom twin billet 62mm precision turbochargers, TiAL billet wastegates and billet blow off valves, custom fabricated stainless steel air induction using aircraft quality metal, and a custom Air/Water intercooler system with high flow water pump.

Everything is cleaned up and ready to go with a custom ice water reservoir, high flow intercooler water heat exchanger, crankcase ventilation system, and K&N air filters. The engine’s beautiful sounds will rip out of a custom fabricated stainless steel exhaust using aircraft quality metal and ultra lightweight stainless steel mufflers.

Prices for the Lamborghini Gallardo TT will range from $35,000 to $109,000, depending on the stage. Hey, speed and beauty doesn’t come cheap.

2011 Lamborghini Gallardo Invidia Edition by Amari Design

lamborghini gallardo invidia edition by amari design

Who’s to say that a company that’s known for being one of the largest pre-owned supercar dealers in the UK can’t expand their business and dive into the auto-tuning industry? Whoever that is probably shouldn’t say that to Amari Supercars because they’ll just laugh in your face.

Noted for being one of the go-to-dealers when it comes to pre-owned exotics, Amari Supercars is branching out into the tuning industry with Amari Design, the newest arm in their ever-expanding portfolio.

To get things started, Amari Design picked a pretty popular car for auto tuners as their first ever project: the Lamborghini Gallardo. Calling it the Gallardo Invidia Edition, Amari Design tuned up the Lamborghini exotic with a slew of aesthetic and performance upgrades that, if you think about it, are all mighty impressive for a tuning neophyte.

The development of the Gallardo Invidia Edition is currently underway with Amari Design shooting for a launch date for the first vehicle sometime around April or May this year.

2011 BMW 3-Series M-Sport MC Edition by Arkym

bmw 3-series m-sport mc edition by arkym

Arkym has heard our cries and have brought forth yet another tuning kit for the BMW 3-series that doesn’t have us choking on last night’s dinner as did their AeroRace One. Fit for any 2010+ BMW 335is LCI, the M-Sport MC Edition package is just the right amount of sporty appeal without the head-scratching mods that appeared on that other model.

Typically when we come across a beautiful rendition of a car, we assume that the idea behind it was thought up by a man, since the auto industry is chock full of testosterone. This car, however, was the brain child of Maureen Chen, a woman who wanted to stand in front of her own car and not stand to the side of someone else’s ride in a scantily clad bikini.

Arkym’s press release sums it up the best stating: "And thus what was coincidentally manifested from this perfectly timed request was the Arkym E92 3-Series M-Sport MC Edition, 3-piece AeroSport kit for the 2010+ BMW 335is LCIs. A good relationship between individuals in the same automotive scene, man or woman, is absolutely key no matter where they come from as neighbors in our world. Given the opportunity for us at Arkym to explore the 335is lineup with Maureen Chen provided us with refreshing insight on how her personality and professionalism in wanting to be a part of her own project translates directly toward the look and feel of her car: sporty, classy, “avant garde”, and not afraid to bite."

No exact details were given on the different components added to the BMW E92 3-Series, but we’re staying on top of this one and bringing those details as soon as we have them. Until then, check out the gallery to see what happens when a woman decides that average just isn’t enough.

2012 Ferrari FF

2012 Ferrari FF wallpaper image

After teasing us for quite a while now, Ferrari has finally revealed the official details on their new successor for the 612 Scaglietti. Called the FF - an acronym for Ferrari Four (four seats and four-wheel drive), the new model is the company’s most powerful, versatile four-seater ever, as well as its first ever four-wheel drive car.
The concept car was designed by Pininfarina, and according to Ferrari "the new car represents not so much an evolution as a true revolution." The new model will deliver "unprecedented level an extremely sporty, high-performance character with incredible versatility, superb comfort and sophisticated elegance, guaranteeing both driver and passengers an absolutely unique driving experience."
The new Ferrari FF GT sports car concept is expected to make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and a production version will follow by 2012.
Update 02/04/2010: Ferrari has released new images with the FF. This time the car is presented in action in the snow. However, our opinion is that the snow doesn’t make it look better. What do you think?

Exterior and Interior

Designed by Pininfarina, the new Ferrari FF features a shooting brake-like body style, with a front design clearly inspired by the 458 Italia and a large rear hatch. According to Ferrari the new model can comfortably accommodate four people and their luggage, thanks to the best cabin space and boot capacity (450 liters, but up to 800 when rear seats down).

Ferrari will offer a vast array of personalization options and accessories, including six model-specific exterior colors and sumptuous interior trim incorporating specially selected and treated aniline leather.
Many exterior colors will be available for the newest Ferrari, including Scuderia Rosso Corsa, Avorio, Bianco, Blue Dubai, Blue California, Nero, Hanus Gold, Marrone, Blue Tour de France, Rosso Rubino, Grigio Silverstone, Rosso Mugello, Verde Zeltweg, Giallo Modena.

The Engine

2.

Under the hood there is a 6,262 cc direct injection V12 engine that delivers an impressive 660 HP at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 503 lbs-ft 6,000 rpm. With this impressive power, the FF will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3,7 seconds and will hit a top speed of 208 mph.
Combined with a transaxle dual-clutch F1 gearbox, the engine has a fuel economy of 15,4 l/100 km, the equivalent of a CO2 emission of 360 g/km. The weight-to-power ratio is impressive for this section of market: 2.7 kg/CV.
A first ever for a Ferrari model is the new four-wheel drive system (4RM). It weighs 50% less than a conventional four-wheel drive system, maintaining perfect weight distribution (53% over the rear axle). Completely integrated with the car’s electronic dynamic control systems, the four-wheel drive technology delivers record levels of performance on all terrains and in all conditions via continuous and intelligent predictive torque distribution to all four wheels. The FF is also equipped with the latest magnetorheological damping system (SCM3), as well as the most recent development in carbon-ceramic brakes from Brembo.

When can I buy one?

After the concept makes its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari will start preparing the production version. However, we don’t expect it to go on sale before the end of 2012. Rumors say the price will be in the $700k area.

The Competition

3.
The current market doesn’t offer much in the shooting-brake coupe department, but there are lots of four-door GTs out there: the Porsche Panamera, the Maserati Quattroporte, and the Mercedes-Benz CLS->Maserati Quattroporte are just a few. Of course, this is a totally different car market, with completely different buyers. Not to mention all of them are less powerful and much cheaper than the FF. The only upperhand the FF has is that it is a Ferrari. That carries major pull in the auto market.

Mercedes unveils "Aesthetics No. 125" sculpture to commemorate its 125th anniversary

mercedes unveils aesthetics no. 125 sculpture to commemorate its 125th anniversary

Mercedes just turned 125 years old recently – hard to believe they’ve been around that long – and in a celebration befitting their status as one of the pre-eminent automakers in the world, the German company decided it was time to reveal the Aesthetics 125 sculpture.

Similar to the Aesthetics 2 sculpture that was unveiled at the just-concluded 2011 Detroit Auto Show, the Aesthetics 125 is more than just a fancy and shiny ivory sculpture. According to Mercedes, the Aesthetics 125 is actually a sample – a preview, shall we say – of the company’s future design language. The sculpture, in so many words, will be the inspiration of what the company’s future models are going to look like.

See what we meant by being more than just a fancy work of art?
The Aesthetics 125 was created using a new rapid-prototyping technology, which allows digital data to be directly transferred to a design object, thus making all the tech workings and application in fine layers work as seamlessly and as efficiently as possible.

The result is an amazing sculpture that points both to the company’s historical importance in the industry and it’s continued emphasis on breaking through new barriers in its continued pursuit of being one of the auto industry’s trailblazers.

This is who Mercedes-Benz is and if the Aesthetics 125 sculpture is any indication, this is who they’re going to continue to be.

2011 Mini Cooper & Cooper S

Mini has released many new models in the past two years, but its bread and butter has always been the Cooper and it still remains a high priority. Updates to the Mini Cooper have been coming steadily every year since day one. The R50 Cooper that started the revival for the company in the United States was utilitarian compared to these new models and had left much to be desired.
For 2011, the car receives some minor updates that will help keep it viable until a replacement model is introduced. Refinement is the one word that we would use to describe the new model and that does not mean it is as refined as its BMW cousins, just refined enough for a Mini. The refresh may only be minor, but it is helpful to this car in every way.
Hit the jump for more details on the 2011 Mini Cooper.

Exterior

2.

Classic Mini lines still prevail in the 2011 Cooper and the designers have not taken too many liberties with the retro feel. A list of standard features come on the exterior including 15” five spoke wheels, chrome grill, and daytime running lights for the Cooper – 16” rib spoke wheels, black mesh grill, and body color sport bumpers for the Cooper S.
Many different options exist and Mini customization can be quite fun. I own a 2005 Mini Cooper R50 and have added many small exterior pieces straight for the Mini website. John Cooper Works parts and body kits are available as well as mirror housings with the British flag, chrome gas cap covers, rally racing lights, and decals for the roof.
For 2011, Mini has added some nice performance pieces to the exterior including functional brake ducts in the lower grill. Not only do these look cool, but by being functional lend a practical aspect to the application. The front end look has been further defined by new lighting. Xenon headlights with a unique design and washer system now sit proudly over the wheel arches. New lights also make an appearance at the rear and they have more of a BMW feel than ever.

Interior

Mini Cooper S Interior Limited Photos

When we look at the interior of the updated Mini, and especially the 2011, I want to go and sell my 2005 immediately. The simplistic retro feel of the Mini One is cool for about five minutes with feelings quickly turning into frustration. The updated speedometer remains in the center of the stack and includes the integrated radio. Navigation is an option and it sits directly in the middle of the whole chrome ring housing. If you opt for the Navigation, than the speedometer is moved to a double cluster setup above the steering wheel. This may sound odd, but it is actually one of the most popular aftermarket pieces that Mini sells.
Updated and more cushioned seats are found in the 2011 and sport seats are an option. The leather is of a higher grade, perhaps it’s just real leather this time, and seat piping is available. In order to receive the upgraded seating upholstery you must get the Lounge Leather Upholstery with Corresponding Color Line option for $2,000, but we think it is money well spent. A few more budget friendly options include Piano Black trim in the dash for only $250 or English Oak for the same price.

Performance

The engine compartment receives some upgrades for 2011 including a bump in power. For the Cooper, the engine remains a 1.6-liter 4 cylinder unit producing 121hp at 6,000rpm and 114 lb-ft of torque at 4,250rpm. Attached to a Getrag manual transmission this can get the Mini to 60mph in 8.4 seconds and a top speed over 126mph. While this is not jaw dropping performance, the little Mini is quick and feels nimble on its feet due to its small size and light weight. Zipping down the freeway in and out of lanes is one of the things this Mini does best and it’s fun in the curves too.
Increases to the Cooper S are more significant lending an extra 9hp over the 2010 model. When talking about cars with 400, 500, or more horsepower than an additional 9 is basically a gimmick, but in a Mini it becomes crucial. The reworked motor is essentially the same as the base Cooper’s with a turbocharger attached. It now produces 181hp at 5,500 rpm and 177 lb-ft of torque at 1,600-5,000rpm. With the increases to engine performance, freeing up the rev limiter and transmission tuning for the Cooper S – the new John cooper Works model will have its work cut out to remain in the lead as the driver’s Cooper of choice.

Pricing

For 2011, the Mini Cooper range begins at $20,100 and the Cooper S at $23,700. Both models are available as the hatchback or as a convertible with will easily run over $30,000 with a few options thrown into the mix. It’s not cheap, but the Mini is one of the best performing and most economical cars on the road getting 37mpg on the highway and 29mpg in the city.

Competition

Several competitors fall in the same category as the Cooper, but none really match it on all levels. The Audi A3, BMW 1-series, and Mazda 3 all attract a different set of buyers and have similar specs to the Cooper. BMW feels the 1-series is pulling buyers away from its more expensive 3-series more than it’s hurting the Mini product line. Audi has a similar philosophy, but the A3 does have similar fuel economy and price points so it would be an option to consider. Mazda, on the other hand, brings an economical car with good performance to the table and might appeal to those on a budget wanting to have some fun as well. With a base price of $15,800, the Mazda is a good fit for those who are either not fully infatuated with how the Mini looks or those who need a bit more size and space. Overall, the Mini attracts a crowd all its own with owners who truly end up loving their cars. They are distinct, customizable, performance oriented, and practical – which makes them hard to beat for the price.
